Estate Planning
Your gift can plant a legacy that benefits generations to follow.
Create a Legacy Gift
Donors who make a commitment that extends past their own lifetimes join an honored group of individuals known as our Cedar Legacy Circle. By including the State Forests Trust of Oregon in your estate plans, you create a lasting gift which will impact generations to follow.
There are many ways to do this. Here are some of the easiest and most common ways to do this:
A. Made a bequest:
Making a charitable bequest from your estate can provide lasting impact while offering tax advantages for your heirs. If done efficiently, you can reduce the taxable value of your estate, ensure your family is cared for, and reduce estate taxes. If your priorities change over time, you can change or revoke your plans at any time.
Here’s how:
Allocate any amount, percentage, or the remainder of your estate or other assets to the State Forests Trust of Oregon through your will or revocable living trust.
Here is an example of verbiage that might fit your needs. You may wish to work with your financial advisor or estate planning attorney to tailor to your particular financial situation.
I hereby give, devise, and bequeath to The State Forests Trust of Oregon (Tax ID # 93-1261279) an Oregon nonprofit corporation, located at
2600 State Street, Salem, OR 97310, _____% of the rest, residue and remainder of my estate [or $_______if specific amount] for the State
Forests Trust of Oregon’s general use and purpose.
B. Designate us as your Retirement Plan Beneficiary
Name the State Forests Trust of Oregon as a beneficiary of your retirement account as a way to give back and gain tax advantages. IRA accounts listing the State Forests Trust of Oregon as the beneficiary are free of estate and income taxes.
To do this, simply fill out a beneficiary designation form from your IRA, 401(k), or 403(b) plan administrator and name us as the beneficiary for that plan.
C. List us on your Life Insurance Policy
Naming the State Forests Trust of Oregon as a beneficiary of your life insurance policy gives the insurance proceeds to us and removes them from your taxable estate. (Some donors have even been know to take out a separate Life Insurance Policy just for this purpose.)
What are the next steps?
1. Consult with your tax advisor or estate planning consultant.
2. If you’ve included the State Forests Trust of Oregon in your estate plans, please let us know. We’d like to thank you and acknowledge you as a member of our Cedar Legacy Circle. This also helps in our planning.
